Purchy's cancel assistant, in plain words.
When a Purchy member asks, our cancel assistant cancels that member's own subscription on a service's website, one cancellation at a time. Here is what it does, what it never does, and how to recognize it.
What it is
Purchy helps people keep track of the subscriptions they pay for. When a member asks Purchy to cancel one for them, the cancel assistant opens the service's website in a fresh browser used only for that cancellation, and goes through the same pages the member would. It only ever works on that member's own subscription, and only because the member asked.
What it does
- Stays on the service's sign-in, account and billing pages. If a page takes it anywhere else, it stops and asks the member.
- Signs in with the details the member enters in Purchy. They are sent encrypted, used once to fill in the service's sign-in form, and can't be read afterwards, not even by Purchy.
- Presses the buttons the member would press to sign in and cancel, including the final cancel button. It stops and asks the member before pressing anything else.
- Stops for the member at any human check, such as a CAPTCHA. It never tries to solve one.
What it never does
- Crawl or index the service's website. It reads only the pages it is on.
- Use hidden or private parts of the service's systems. It uses the same pages and buttons the member would.
- Buy anything, upgrade a plan or accept an offer without asking. It always stops and asks the member first.
- Delete, close or transfer an account or workspace, or give another app access to one.
- Change payment details or reveal a password.
What Purchy keeps
An AI model reads each page the assistant is on to decide the next step. The AI service may keep those pages for up to 30 days.
Purchy keeps a screenshot and the text of the service's confirmation page, and a screenshot of the page that shows which account was cancelled, for up to a year, as the member's proof that they cancelled. If a run fails, or Purchy can't confirm the cancellation, it keeps a screenshot of the last page for 30 days. Members can delete these at any time. Purchy keeps no other page content after the run.

Services that don't allow assistants
Purchy only offers the assistant for services that allow it. For every other service, Purchy shows the member how to cancel on their own.
How to recognize it
The assistant's browser adds a digital signature to its requests, so a website can check that a visit really comes from Purchy.
In technical terms, it signs its requests with HTTP Message Signatures (Web Bot Auth) and sends the Signature-Agent "https://purchy.app". The public keys that check the signature are published at https://purchy.app/.well-known/http-message-signatures-directory.
